B-2-B...aka Bolt-to-Bed

Everyone is encouraged to come and make Comfort quilts, Patriotic quilts and Pillowcases for those in need!! Similar to an old-fashioned Quilting Bee, we’ll begin at 9:30 am. Come help and stay as long as your schedule permits. Activity will continue all day long through to the evening meeting time, so everyone can participate!! We’ll need cutters, piecers, pressers, pinners, machine quilters, binders, hand sewers, tufters and more!! Pick your "favorite" job –there’ll be a spot for you!

One of the most exciting things about B2B is how many quilts can be made in a day! For example, you may be cutting blocks, thinking you’re not making much progress, when someone announces: “56 QUILTS COMPLETE!!” Like the old saying goes, ‘Many hands make light work.’ It’s fun, a great way to meet people, and help us make a difference in others’ lives.

There will also be several volunteers showing their favorite blocks and techniques, as well as how to put together a pillowcase kit (a great stash-buster for all of us). There’ll be lots of room for creativity. And--if you’re a speed demon at the machine, pre-made kits will be ready for YOU!
What to Bring?
♦Energy and Enthusiasm!

PLEASE NOTE!
Along with your energy and enthusiasm, please bring your favorite notions: sewing machine, cutting mat/ruler, ironing board/iron, etc...AND
A LUNCH OR SNACK IS VERY HELPFUL!

Upcoming Programs
September: Art Quilts, Program and workshop with Bevalee Runner.

Bevalee, a sixth generation Oregonian, has been quilting for 30 years. Her life has taken her “around the world and back again” and though she began as a traditional hand quilter, her art quilts are her trademark. Bevalee’s trunk shows and lectures give the listener insight into 18 years of overseas living and the quilting journey she has enjoyed.

Since she returned to the United States in 1999, Bevalee’s quilts have won local awards and have been juried into major international quilt shows in Houston, Paducah, Nashville, and California. In 2002, she was named Master Quilter, a life appointment, by the Mountain Meadow Quilt Guild in Sunriver, Oregon. Bevalee currently teaches regularly at BJ’s Quilt Basket in Bend, Oregon and takes her “Quilting Journey” presentation on the road from time to time. You can visit her website .

In addition to the meetings and trunk show, Bevalee will also be teaching a Guild workshop the next day, Thursday, September 30. Don’t wait too long; sign-ups are limited to the first 20 people. Look for the enclosed registration sheet.

If you’re interested in mixed media and stretching outside your box, this will be a fantastic meeting/workshop for YOU! Workshop sign-up sheet in this month's newsletter.

Part One: The mystery begins!

The finished size will be approximately 40”X40” square, but you have the option of using the finished mystery quilt top as the medallion for a larger sized quilt.
CENTER(BIG(Fabrics (always the fun part!))
Fabric A - lightest and brightest. This fabric should stand out from the others. Good choices-yellow-gold, mustard, lime or fuchsia. A print is ok or a patterned fabric that reads prominently solid. You can use 3-5 fabrics that have similar coloration for a scrappy look. You will need ¾ yard or 1 yard for good measure.
Fabric B - deepest and darkest. This will be your main background and should be deep in tone; suggestions-navy, black, purples or a swirled batik. You need ¾ yard.
Fabric C - plaid or multi-print, medium value. Choose a fabric that is intermediate in color from fabrics A &B-try picking a plaid with colors from fabrics A&B. You will need 2/3 yard plaid or medium print.
Fabric D - a bold stripe. You will need 2/3 yard .You will need a clear contrast between the plaid (C) and the stripe.

Community Service Work Parties

Wednesday Afternoon Work Party on Guild Day

I decided to add the work party because that is sort of what it is!! Plan to stay after morning guild meeting and sew.

There were only a few of us this last time, but we did have a good time and would love company. You must bring what ever you need to work with. We have an iron, ironing board, table risers and extension cords...that's it! I will bring some guild stash fabric and batting. There are always kits available, too.

If you want to come sew on your own projects, that is alright, too.

No Quilter Left Behind
The next series will be seasonal. Each will highlight a new technique or an adaptation of an old one. Now we need to get the 3-D bow ties made for the Christmas season. Complete three green bows and one red to make the wreath. Many were impressed with the “magic” of a bow-tie without a set-in-seam.Try it and you will realize how cool this block is. The directions will be at the October meeting, but if you can't be there I can send it to you. However, remember the SASE (that means with a stamp on it). This block will be due at the November meeting which gives the winners time to make a table runner, placemats or something great for the season.
